The Hill House

4th Semester Design Consultancy Elective | Wooden Construction

ABOUT

In our elective course, we had the objective of developing a selective design brief. The design we chose to develop is a 100 m² single-family house. We chose a lightweight building system consisting of wooden studs and rafters with a separate load-carrying steel column and beam system. The architect's design concept was to blend the house with the landscape; it embodies a simple and minimalistic design. The wooden cladding refers both to modern architecture and to traditional Scandinavian houses. One of the main features of the house is a small hill behind the building. Thanks to that, the building refers to the landscape in a literal way. The hill covered with flowers and herbs becomes a bridge between the wild meadow and the building - it is a perfect way to respect the location's context.
